University Information & Summer Schools
Study Days at Oxford University
Study Days at Univ are one-day events hosted in College for around 60 Year 12 students. They are generally multi-subject. The participants do not necessarily need to be set on the courses in question, but they do need to have an appropriate academic profile to make a credible application to Oxford. The majority of the content in the Study Day will be delivered by a number of Univ’s academic tutors, or graduate students, and usually comprises a mixture of lectures and group work, occasionally facilitated by current Univ undergraduates in that subject.
From the participants’ point of view, the Study Day is a valuable opportunity to gain insight into: university level study; study of particular courses with a mind to narrowing down their subject choice; Oxford applications, and University College. In supporting their super-curricular exploration, it also gives them a subject-specific experience to write about in their personal statement and may build important critical thinking skills useful for applying to and later studying at Oxford University.
Next term, we will be holding two Study Days*:
- Maths and Computer Science Study Day – 6th February 2024
- English, History and Classics Study Day – 7th March 2024
These are a great opportunity for your students, and are an excellent ‘super-curricular’ activity for them to do (that thing that myself and the admissions tutors at Oxford are always banging on about!). Students don’t have to be set on studying any of these subjects to apply, and in fact these days often help students decide if a certain subject is right for them. Students themselves have to apply, and then forward on a supporting teacher form onto you or another supporting educator. This is to confirm that it’s ok for them to miss school that day etc etc. The deadline to complete these applications is the 12th January 2024. If money/travel might be an issue, encourage your students to complete the form anyway, and get in touch with me if/when they’re accepted onto the day. From the planning side of things, these days are looking really exciting and it will be such a treat for your students.
The form for students interested in any or all of the subjects in the study days mentioned is here: https://forms.office.com/e/rBJEEwFWeK share this link widely!
Any questions/worries/concerns, email me at access@univ.ox.ac.uk . Study Days are open to students from all throughout the UK, not just our link areas so get applying! I’ve made a poster for you to share with students with all this information too.
That’s all from me for now – make sure you’re following me on Twitter @unistaircase12 for any extra little opportunities that might pop up over the holidays, but otherwise have a great festive season. I look forward to receiving your students’ applications!
